The main figure of Impressionism, Claude Monet,(1840-1926) settled in Giverny in 1883.

From then on, his garden became his favorite subject.

He worked on the various colour effects created by the light at different times of the day and the year.

Little by little, the subject as well as the limits between the water and the earth tend to fade away and the water lilies soon become

only excuses for creating an almost abstract painting.
