Pierre Vaux started in 1920 by acquiring a shop in the center of Saint Claude, which is a little town in the Jura, famous for its hand-made pipes. It became soon, very successful. After his wedding in 1948, he opened his own manufacture to create custom umbrellas on demand. In 1989, the company settled in a new building, in the industrial area of the city. Nowadays, the company is one of the largest in France, with 150 000 umbrellas sold each year.
